The James River Fall Line is a geological zone where the river drops 100 feet in elevation in the span of 7 miles; 50 feet of which drop in the last mile, right next to downtown Richmond. This elevation shift causes turbulent waters, and has turned this section of the river into a favorite amongst white water rafting and kayaking enthusiasts.
